FAQWHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DINING DOLLARS AND SWIPE & SAVE DOLLARS?

Dining Dollars are tax exempt dollars included in a tax exempt dining plan. No tax is charged on food and beverage purchases when you dine in Chartwells food outlets on campus. Dining Dollars do expire when the plan expires.
Swipe & Save Dollars are the dollars loaded on your card and tax is applied to all purchases when you dine in Chartwells food outlets on campus. Swipe & Save Dollars don’t expire.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SWIPE & SAVE PLAN AND MYMEALS PLAN?

Swipe & Save plans are voluntary plans that provide commuter students, staff, faculty and guests on campus with a convenient way to eat well and spend less while dining on campus. Mymeals plans are required plans that are included in your residential package.

HOW DOES THE SWIPE & SAVE DINING PLAN WORK?

There are several different types of Swipe & Save Dining Plans. Some plans are meal based for use at dining hall Frank Grisdale, some are declining balanced based for use at all retail food outlets and for complete freedom there is a combination of both meal swipes for the dining hall with dollars for retail purchases.

Meal swipes can only be used at Frank Grisdale and provide you access to an all-you-care-to-eat dining experience. The Swipe & Save Reloadable Plan is a declining balance system where Swipe & Save Dollars are added to your Swipe & Save card. You can load Swipe & Save Dollars to your Swipe & Save card via our online service or with cashier. The minimum load is $50.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT PLAN IS BEST FOR ME?

We provide lots of options to accommodate various life-style and needs. The Swipe & Save Reloadable Card plan allows you to load an amount that makes the most sense for your dining needs and budget. Start low and add as you go or load with an annual budget in mind. Just a coffee drinker with a few snacks here and there consider loading $300 a semester. Looking for a few meals and coffee breaks a week start with $500. There is no risk as the funds don’t expire.

WHERE DO I GET THE 5% DISCOUNT?

The 5% discount is applicable for non-branded items at these locations: Cactus Café, Roasters Coffee House and Centre Court. 

WHAT ARE EXCLUSIVE SAVINGS PROMOTIONS?

Exclusive savings promotions is simply a membership program that gives you access to savings when you purchase at Chartwells retail locations with your Swipe & Save dollars.   No extra card to hold and no coupons to present, just purchase using your Swipe & Save dollars to take advantage of our membership privileges.

WHAT ARE SWIPE & SAVE DOLLARS?

Swipe & Save Dollars are money that is loaded on your Swipe & Save card that can be used to purchase food and beverage items at our retail locations.

WHERE CAN I USE MY DINING PLAN or SWIPE & SAVE PLAN?

CAN I CARRY MY DINING PLAN FORWARD PER YEAR OR TERM?

All taxable Swipe & Save Dining Plans can be carried forward from year to year.  Residential Dining Plans expire at the end of the school year (April 2015).  Please check with Chartwells or Residence Life for complete details. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CARD IS LOST OR STOLEN?

The security of a card remains the cardholder’s responsibility. Cards should be treated like a credit or debit card. If you lose your Swipe & Save Card please report it immediately to the food Service Manager. The card will be disabled and you will be provided with a new one. If a card is lost or stolen the cardholder is responsible for all charges made to that card until the card is reported lost or stolen.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FORGET MY CARD?

Your activated Swipe & Save Card is the key to the whole dining plan system. If you forget it you will have to pay cash.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?

Residential dining plans are only refundable if you withdraw from residence or from the university and a $50 administration fee will apply.

HOW DO I ORDER MY DINING PLAN IN PERSON?

At the Chartwells Office . Also look for our campus dining booth during move-in days and throughout campus during the start of each semester.

WHAT IF I DECIDE TO PURCHASE SWIPE & SAVE DOLLARS HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEMESTER?

Swipe & Save dollars don’t expire so they can be purchased or topped up at any time of the year.

DO SWIPE & SAVE DOLLARS EXPIRE?

No, they do not expire.  Any unused Swipe & Save dollars roll over into the next semester.

HOW DO I PURCAHSE A DINING PLAN?

It's easy! Swipe & Save plans can be purchase your plan online or purchase at the Chartwells Office state location. We accept debit, MasterCard and Visa. For more information on purchasing please contact Chartwells Office or email chartwellsoffice@oldscollege.ca.
