WHAT IS A CBU SMART CARD?

The CBU Smart Card is CBU's new official identification card.  It also acts as a debit card, allowing you to make purchases at retail outlets on campus.

To view plans for purchase visit the Commuter Dining Plan page. If you need help determining which plan is right for you, contact us.

WHERE DO I GET MY CBU SMART CARD?

Smart Cards are available at the Smart Card Office in Room B177A in the Marvin Harvey Building or the IT Help Desk.

WHERE CAN I USE MY CBU SMART CARD?

Your CBU smart card can be used at Harriss Hall, Tim Hortons, Retail Cafeteria and the Verschuren Coffee Shop.

CAN I CARRY MY DINING PLAN FORWARD PER YEAR OR TERM?

Commuter Meal Plans can be carried over from December to January but expire at the end of the school year in April 2018.

Retail Dollars on your CBU Smart Card only expire when you are no longer a student at Cape Breton University.

IS MY MEAL PLAN REFUNDABLE?

Residential dining plans are pro-rated to the date the student withdraws from residence.

CBU Smart Cards are refundable. Any bonus dollars, complimentary incentives and guest passes are not refundable.

CAN I TAKE FOOD OUT OF THE DINING HALL?

Sorry, you are not allowed to take food out of Harriss Dining Hall. These plans are for food that is consumed in the dining room only.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CARD IS LOST OR STOLEN?

You must first deactivate your CBU Smart Card online at https://mycbucard.cbu.ca using the Account tool.  Then you will need to get a replacement card at the Smart Card Office in B177A in the Marvin Harvey Building or the IT Help Desk.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FORGET MY CARD?

Your activated student card is the key to the whole dining plan system. If you forget it you will have to pay cash to gain access to the dining hall.

The security of a card remains the cardholder’s responsibility. Cards should be treated like a credit or debit card. If a card is lost or stolen the cardholder is responsible for all charges made to that card until the card is reported lost or stolen.

CAN I LEND MY CARD TO A FRIEND OR PURCHASE A MEAL FOR A FRIEND?

Some plans are flexible so if you would like to invite a friend to dine with you we would welcome the opportunity to serve them. Ask one of our managers for details.
